Mayan Aerophones

These are student examples from an introductory ceramic lesson I have taught in Beginning Sculpture and Ceramics courses. I have also taught the lesson as a workshop to other art teachers. Students are introduced to the aerophones utilized by the Mayan, and invited to make Ocarinas of their own in animal forms. Students are introduced to numerous ceramic hand-building techniques and important ceramic skills in the short lesson: wedging, managing moisture, modeling, hollowing, joining, the use of coils and slabs for decoration, and carving.
